Schumacher SC1280: rate, battery and setup answers

The SC1280's voltage-specific product-page rates and its 3 A maintenance wording answer different shopping questions. Use the battery's label and manual first; a charger capability is not a recommended safe rate.

12 V AGM charging at 15 A

The current exact-model page lists 15 A rapid charging at 12 V and names AGM compatibility. For a 12 V AGM charging task, the SC1280 is a documented match at its 15 A ordinary-charge setting; its separate 6 V plan and maintenance stage do not broaden that voltage-specific rate. This is a capability screen, not a safe-rate recommendation. See every same-condition 12 V AGM Charge match, or hold voltage and chemistry constant for the portable one-bank 15 A minimum set and the otherwise identical 16 A set. Read the SC1280 assessment.

6 V AGM charging at 2 A

The current exact page states 2 A for its 6 V charging mode. For 6 V AGM ordinary charging, the SC1280's current product page assigns 2 A to this plan, while the linked manual lists 3 A and 15 A selections without assigning them by voltage. Confirm the delivered panel and manual before relying on the page-specific rate. See every same-condition 6 V AGM Charge match. For this portable one-bank 6 V AGM Charge setup, SC1280, SC1362 and SC1357 each qualify at 2 A and fall out at 3 A. Compare the 2 A minimum with the otherwise identical 3 A minimum set. The SC1280 page-specific 2 A 6 V claim remains distinct from its 15 A 12 V plan and the manual's unmapped 3 A/15 A selectors; the SC1362 and SC1357 also have exact 2 A 6 V plans, not a 3 A 6 V path. SC1325's distinct 6 A ordinary-charge plan still clears a 3 A floor; read the SC1325 assessment, the SC1280 review, SC1362 and SC1357. This is a capability screen, not battery-rate advice.

Maintaining a charged Gel battery

The manual identifies a Gel mode and describes automatic post-charge maintenance with occasional monitoring. It calls the later maintenance current small and does not establish the selectable 3 A setting as a continuous float current. See the same-condition 12 V Gel maintenance set; follow the battery maker's charging and storage instructions.

Capacity, chemistry and installation limits

The manual's example charging-time table does not provide a universal Ah ceiling, so the SC1280 is not a confirmed match when a numeric capacity is essential. The manual covers lead-acid modes only; no lithium/BMS profile or IP rating is established. It requires grounded 120 V AC, a dry and ventilated location, and says not to expose the charger to rain or snow. A boat battery must be removed and charged ashore unless the equipment is specifically designed for on-board marine service. One clamp output serves one battery at a time.

How combined finder choices change the answer

12 V, AGM and ordinary charging

Current decision: SC1308L adds a 12 V lead-acid AGM Charge match at a listed up-to-6 A routine capability; its 6 V Charge/Maintain path is 2 A. Its 30 A Boost and 100 A Engine Start are separate modes, and the SC1308/SC1308L source conflict remains a model-label check.

One hundred and eleven reviewed configurations match this broad 12 V AGM Charge combination. The SC1280 is a documented match at its 15 A ordinary-charge setting; its separate 6 V plan and maintenance stage do not broaden that voltage-specific rate. SC1364 and SC1326 are other 12 V AGM options with a page-listed 6 A/2 A Charge/Maintain selection; neither model's Boost or Engine Start rating is ordinary charge current. SC1340L's page-linked manual and associated image document a 6 A/2 A ordinary-charge path at 12 V AGM, while the separate 10 A Boost and 55 A Engine Start modes do not count. The page's structured-current line omits 6 A, and its lithium wording conflicts with the manual. The SC1326 also offers a separately documented 6 V AGM plan, not an additional bank. The SC1339L-titled offer is another 12 V AGM match with a listed 10 A ordinary-charge capability, although its page title and pictured/model identity conflict and should be checked. The SC1361 documents a 12 V AGM plan at up to 6 A ordinary charge; its Boost and Engine Start ratings are separate. The SC1340L is another 12 V AGM Charge plan with a listed 6 A ordinary-charge capability; its Boost and Engine Start modes do not count. SC1340L and SC1564L each document a 12 V AGM Charge plan with a listed 6 A ordinary-charge capability; their separate Boost and Engine Start modes do not count as routine charge current. The page/form/package model codes for SC1564L differ; see its assessment. The SC1446 also fits this combination through its listed 10 A 12 V Charge setting; its 6 V 20 A line is Boost, not ordinary charging, and the manual calls for monitored timing. SC1308L adds a 12 V AGM Charge/Maintain plan with a listed upper routine capability of 6 A; the separate 30 A Boost and 100 A Engine Start modes are not charging current, and its SC1308/SC1308L label conflict remains a check. Read the SC1308L assessment. See the same-condition result; read the SC1340L review, the SC1339L-titled offer review and the SC1361 review, along with the SC1280, SC1364, SC1326 and SC1446 reviews for their distinct current plans.

6 V, AGM and ordinary charging

Current decision: SC1308L adds a 6 V AGM Charge match at the page-described 2 A routine path; it does not have a 6 A ordinary 6 V setting, and Boost/Engine Start do not count as charging current.

Thirty-eight reviewed configurations match the broad 6 V lead-acid AGM Charge combination. For 6 V AGM ordinary charging, the SC1280's current product page assigns 2 A to that plan; its separate 12 V 15 A rating does not transfer to 6 V. SC1326 and SC1340L are other 6/12 V options with a listed 6 A 6 V Charge setting; SC1340L's Boost and Engine Start labels are separate modes, and its linked manual does not support the page's lithium claim. SC1340L and SC1564L are additional 6 V AGM Charge matches at a listed 6 A ordinary-charge capability; Boost and Engine Start are distinct modes. SC1308L adds a separate page-described 2 A 6 V Charge/Maintain path; its 30 A Boost and 100 A Engine Start do not count as charging current, and its manual/page suffix remains a check. Read the SC1308L review. The SC1564L page/form/package code conflict remains a buyer check; read the SC1564L review. Neither rating is a battery-safe-rate recommendation. See the same-condition result, review the SC1280 manual's unmapped 3 A/15 A selector list, and compare the SC1326 and SC1340L assessments.

6 V AGM with a 2 A capability floor

Current decision: The SC1308L page describes a 2 A ordinary 6 V Charge/Maintain path, so it meets a 2 A floor exactly, not a 3 A floor; its 30 A Boost and 100 A Engine Start are not routine charge current.

Twenty-eight reviewed models match the portable one-bank 6 V AGM Charge request at a 2 A minimum; nineteen remain at a 3 A minimum. SC1280, SC1362 and SC1357 each qualify at 2 A and fall out at 3 A; SC1326 and SC1340L have separate page/manual-backed 6 A ordinary 6 V Charge capabilities and remain above both floors. SC1340L and SC1564L have listed 6 A ordinary 6 V Charge capabilities, so both clear the 2 A floor; Boost and Engine Start modes do not count. The SC1308L-titled page separately describes a 2 A 6 V Charge/Maintain path, so it meets the 2 A boundary but does not clear 3 A. Its 30 A Boost and 100 A Engine Start are separate functions, not charge current. The page form/package SC1308 suffix conflict remains a buyer check; read the SC1308L assessment. For SC1340L, 10 A Boost and 55 A Engine Start are separate functions; SC1564L also has a page/form/package code conflict that should be verified. These are listed capabilities, not safe-rate recommendations for a particular battery. Compare the 2 A set with the otherwise identical 3 A set. Read the SC1280, SC1362, SC1357, SC1326, SC1340L and SC1564L reviews for their distinct voltage-specific current plans.

12 V AGM, current floor and earlier-model choice

For a 12 V AGM portable charge task, the SC1280's documented 15 A ordinary-charge capability clears an 8 A minimum; including earlier models does not change this current-reference model's status. Capability does not establish battery-safe rate. The SC1339L-titled offer also clears 8 A with its page-listed 10 A ordinary-charge capability; the page and pictured model labels conflict, so check the exact offered identity. The current-reference SC1446 clears the same 8 A floor at its listed 10 A 12 V ordinary Charge capability whether earlier models are excluded or included; its timer still requires an operator. See the same-condition 8 A set with earlier models excluded and compare the otherwise identical set with earlier models included. Read the SC1280, SC1339L-titled offer and SC1446 reviews before choosing by numeric capability alone.

12 V AGM maintenance and current wording

Current decision: SC1308L supports automatic post-charge maintenance with a small current as needed and occasional monitoring, but no fixed float-current amount; its listed 6 A is 12 V ordinary-charge capability, not a maintenance rate.

The SC1280's plan supports automatic maintenance after charging, so it meets the maintenance-service filter. Its 2 A and 15 A values describe voltage-specific charge capabilities; they are not evidence of a continuous maintenance current. SC1364 and SC1326 also document automatic post-charge maintenance and occasional monitoring, but neither linked instruction set supplies a fixed continuous float current; the SC1326's 6 A Charge and 2 A selector values are not a measured maintenance rate. SC1340L's page-linked manual likewise describes automatic transition to Maintain and a small current as needed, but requires occasional monitoring and provides no fixed float-current amount; its 2 A selector is not a float rate. The SC1339L-titled offer's linked manual describes a small post-charge Maintain current as needed and requires monitoring but gives no fixed float-current value; its 10 A page rating is ordinary charge, so the 1 A filter compares charging capability, not float current. The SC1339L-titled offer’s linked manual describes automatic post-charge maintenance and a small current as needed, with occasional monitoring but no fixed float-current value; its page-listed 10 A capability is ordinary charge, so the 1 A filter compares charging capability, not float current. SC1564L also documents post-charge maintenance with occasional monitoring and no fixed float-current value; its listed 6 A is ordinary charge. The SC1361 manual also describes automatic post-charge Maintain with a small current supplied as needed and monitoring; it states no fixed float-current value or universal Ah ceiling, and the 1 A filter compares its 6 A ordinary-charge capability instead. SC1308L's directly linked instructions also describe automatic post-charge Maintain, a small current supplied as needed and occasional monitoring, but no fixed float-current value; its 6 A rating is a 12 V Charge capability, not maintenance current. Read the SC1308L review. Here a 1 A minimum filters charge capability, not maintenance current. See the same-condition 1 A-minimum maintenance set and follow the battery maker's instructions. Read the SC1280, SC1364, SC1326, SC1340L, SC1339L-titled offer, SC1361 and SC1564L reviews for their separate monitoring limits.

Current thresholds depend on voltage

Current decision: The SC1308L fails the fixed 15 A parent threshold: its page/manual support up to 6 A ordinary charge at 12 V and 2 A at 6 V. It passes the separate 12 V 6 A example but not 7 A; Boost and Engine Start do not raise charge current.

Hold the other choices at 12 V, AGM, ordinary Charge, portable and one bank with earlier models included: SC1280 meets a 15 A minimum and fails a 16 A minimum. Its 6 V plan is only 2 A, so the 12 V rating cannot answer a 6 V current requirement. SC1364 and SC1326 each clear a 6 A floor and fail a 7 A floor on their 12 V AGM Charge plans; the SC1326's 40 A Boost and 275 A Engine Start are separate modes, not added charge current. SC1361 has the same 6 A/7 A edge; its separate 10 A Boost and 50 A Engine Start do not count, and it fails this 15 A request. The SC1446 clears the 6 A and 7 A examples on its ordinary 10 A 12 V Charge plan, but does not meet the parent 15 A minimum; its Boost and Engine Start ratings do not raise ordinary charge current. SC1308L supports a listed upper routine capability of 6 A at 12 V and a 2 A path at 6 V, so it clears the 12 V 6 A example but fails 7 A and the 15 A parent; the 30 A Boost/100 A Engine Start figures do not count. The page/manual SC1308 suffix conflict remains a check; read the SC1308L review. See the same-condition 15 A matches and the otherwise identical 16 A matches; for the 6/7 A comparison, see 6 A and 7 A. Read the SC1280, SC1364, SC1326, SC1361 and SC1446 reviews for their distinct voltage-specific rates.

Portable does not mean multiple outputs

Current decision: SC1308L has one page-associated clamp pair and portable 120 V AC setup, so it meets a portable one-bank request but fails a two-bank minimum; Boost and Engine Start are not extra battery outputs.

SC1280 is portable and has one clamp output: it meets a one-bank minimum but cannot serve two independent batteries simultaneously. A second voltage mode or its separate testing/maintenance functions do not create another channel. SC1364 and SC1326 are also wheeled, portable, one-output models; the SC1326's photographed clamp pair corroborates this visual arrangement. The SC1340L page-associated image shows one clamp pair too; its Boost and Engine Start modes are not extra charging channels, so it meets the portable one-bank case but fails a two-bank minimum. The SC1339L-titled offer has one page-associated clamp pair; neither its separate Boost nor Engine Start mode adds a second output, so it meets a portable one-bank request but fails a two-bank minimum. The SC1339L-titled offer and SC1564L each have one page-associated clamp pair; neither model’s separate Boost or Engine Start mode adds a second output, so each meets a portable one-bank request but fails a two-bank minimum. Read the SC1564L review for the exact page-associated image and model-code conflict. The SC1361 official image also shows one clamp pair; it meets the one-bank portable request but cannot supply a second independent battery output, and Boost/Engine Start are separate modes rather than extra banks. SC1446 is a wheeled portable charger with one pictured clamp pair: it meets a one-bank condition but cannot meet two independent outputs, and its Boost/Engine Start modes do not add banks. The exact SC1308L image also shows one clamp pair; its 30 A Boost and 100 A Engine Start modes are not extra battery channels, so it meets the portable one-bank case and fails the two-bank minimum. Read the SC1308L review; its page/form suffix conflict is a separate buyer check. See portable one-bank matches and compare portable two-bank matches. Read the SC1280, SC1364, SC1326, SC1340L, SC1339L-titled offer, SC1361 and SC1446 reviews before treating modes as extra outputs.
