Schumacher SC1564L: voltage, chemistry and mode limits

The SC1564L page offers a long list of functions, but the useful shopping question is which exact operating plan applies to your battery. Schumacher’s current U.S. product-page title and observed collection card name SC1564L. The page form and a package line also say SC1564. Its linked manual names both SC1281L and SC1564L, so the family instructions provide a real bridge while leaving the current page’s model/package conflict visible. This guide separates the documented charge plans and shows the exact finder conditions a shopper can try.

Voltage: 6 V and 12 V are documented; 24 V is not

The page-linked manual supports charging 6 V and 12 V lead-acid batteries. Its lithium instruction is for 12 V LiFePO₄ only. That means the 12 V lithium allowance is not a 6 V lithium plan, and the current documentation does not establish 24 V use.

For a 6 V AGM charge task, see the same-condition 6 V finder results; for a 12 V battery use the 12 V AGM charge scenario. The exact SC1564L assessment is available here.

Lead-acid and LiFePO₄ are separate plans

For lead-acid, the linked manual names Standard/STD, AGM and deep-cycle use. Only its explicit AGM label is mapped here to a specific questionnaire subtype; Standard is not automatically translated into flooded/wet, EFB, maintenance-free or calcium, and deep-cycle describes a use class rather than a separate chemistry subtype. For lithium, the manual permits 12 V LiFePO₄ only with an integral battery BMS and protection. The page’s marketing mentions other chemistry language, but those unsupported subtypes are not converted into matcher capabilities.

Use the broad portable lead-acid charge results or the documented 12 V LiFePO₄-with-BMS results. See the full model review before relying on a seller’s suffix or package description.

AGM is the specific lead-acid subtype this plan names

The linked family manual supports AGM and the exact page has an AGM battery-type field. Its page features also mention Gel, but the linked manual does not establish a Gel selection/profile, so a gel-specific match is not claimed. The page and manual do not establish EFB, calcium or maintenance-free matching either. A broad lead-acid result does not certify every lead-acid subtype.

Compare the 12 V AGM charge matches with the LiFePO₄ matches that document the BMS condition. The model-specific assessment is SC1564L.

Charging and maintenance are different jobs from power supply

The manual describes a 6/2 A Charge setting and an automatic transition to Maintain after charge completion. It gives no fixed float-current figure; if the unit must supply its maximum maintenance current for 12 continuous hours, it aborts, and occasional monitoring is required. No 13.6 V device-power-supply mode is documented. Maintenance wording also does not create an Ah charging ceiling.

Try the 12 V AGM charge shortlist or the 12 V AGM maintenance shortlist. For a power-supply job, use only the separately documented 12 V Supply-mode results, not the SC1564L.

6 A is the ordinary-charge screen; Boost and starting are separate

Schumacher’s exact page and linked manual support an ordinary 6/2 A Charge setting. The page separately describes 12–30 A Boost and 100 A Engine Start. Those higher figures do not make this a 30 A recovery charger. A minimum of 6 A is a capability screen—not a prescribed or safe rate for every battery. A 7 A minimum is beyond the documented ordinary-charge plan.

Compare the same-condition 6 A-or-higher results with the same battery task with a 7 A minimum; the SC1564L appears only in the first. Read its review for the output-mode distinction.

One output; a numeric Ah ceiling remains unknown

The official image and manual show one clamp output pair, not two independently controlled banks. The manual gives a few example charge times but no universal SC1564L Ah maximum or minimum. A numeric capacity filter therefore cannot establish that an unlisted battery size fits; it also does not prove that the charger cannot physically charge it. For two simultaneous independent banks, compare only models with two documented banks. To see a fixed 100 Ah input alongside the other documented limits, use the 100 Ah finder scenario and do not treat the omitted SC1564L as a declared incompatibility.

Voltage, chemistry, subtype and BMS must all agree

One compatible interaction is a 12 V LiFePO₄ charging task where the battery has its own BMS and protection; the SC1564L’s family manual names this exact condition. The complete 12 V LiFePO₄/BMS charge query keeps all those conditions together. A 6 V LiFePO₄ request conflicts with this manual: its lithium instruction is 12 V only. The 6 V LiFePO₄ conflict query is therefore not a supported SC1564L use. See the model assessment for the family-manual and exact-page identity limits.

Portable and earlier-model answers

The SC1564L is a portable AC charger. The manual calls for a grounded nominal 120 V outlet, dry ventilated placement, no rain/snow and shore-only charging of a marine battery. It is not described as an installed on-board charger. Choose portable models excluding earlier references or documented on-board plans for a fixed installation. The current manufacturer page makes this a current reference, so it remains in both the exclude-earlier result and the include-earlier result; that toggle does not verify a retailer’s stock.
