Schumacher SC1446: when its documented charge plan fits

The SC1446 is a wheeled manual charger, not an unattended maintainer. Its current manufacturer page assigns the ordinary 10 A Charge rating to 12 V; the 6 V evidence belongs to a separate Boost setting. Use the exact battery label and its own charging instructions before choosing a rate.

12 V AGM with a listed 10 A charge capability

The current exact product page describes a 10 A 12 V Charge mode, and the directly linked manual names AGM lead-acid use. That makes the SC1446 a documented fit for a supervised 12 V AGM charging scenario when the battery maker permits the planned current. It does not mean 10 A is suitable for every battery. Set and monitor the manual timer; the 20/40 A Boost and 200 A Engine Start ratings are different functions. Use the same-condition 12 V AGM, 10 A minimum, one-output portable finder, then read the full SC1446 review.

12 V Gel lead-acid on a timed charge

The page-linked manual names Gel lead-acid and the product page lists a 10 A 12 V Charge capability, so a manually supervised charge is documented when the battery maker allows it. The sources do not document a separate maintenance/float cycle. The manual also marks its small 6–12 Ah and 12–32 Ah battery categories not recommended at the listed settings; do not infer a battery-specific safe rate from the 10 A figure. See the same-condition 12 V Gel, 10 A minimum, one-output portable finder and the SC1446 source-based assessment.

6 V output labeling is not a 6 V ordinary-charge rating

The product page lists 6/12 V output, but it describes ordinary Charge as 10 A at 12 V. Its 20 A 6/12 V figure is explicitly Boost, intended for a separate pre-start task; the reviewed evidence does not establish ordinary 6 V charging current. For routine 6 V charging, use a model whose exact instructions document that charge mode. This same-condition 6 V AGM routine-charge finder keeps the 6 V requirement and excludes SC1446 rather than re-labeling Boost as Charge; see the SC1446 review for the source limitation.

Ten amperes is a capability boundary, not a safe-rate recommendation

For the fixed portable, one-bank, 12 V AGM Charge task, the listed 10 A ordinary setting clears a 10 A minimum; the separate Boost and Engine Start values do not raise that ordinary-charge limit. The 11 A request falls outside this model’s documented charge capability. Compare the same 10 A minimum result with the otherwise identical 11 A minimum result. These are equipment-capability screens only. Follow the battery maker’s current limit; the SC1446 manual also marks its small-battery chart rows not recommended.

Choose a different product for unattended storage maintenance

The manual says to select a timer period, watch the charger and battery, and stop when charging is complete. It does not describe automatic post-charge float maintenance or a fixed maintenance current. The SC1446 therefore is not selected for a storage-maintenance task. Use this same-condition 12 V AGM maintenance finder to see models documented for that job, and consult the guide to charging versus maintaining before leaving a battery connected.

Capacity is not a published SC1446 ceiling

The manual uses amp-hour rating, reserve capacity and state of charge to help estimate a timer interval, but its examples do not give a universal SC1446 maximum Ah rating. The finder therefore does not treat an entered capacity as a confirmed SC1446 fit. Its table separately marks the 6–12 Ah and 12–32 Ah small-battery rows not recommended at its listed settings; check your battery maker’s instructions rather than extrapolating a universal minimum or maximum. The same-condition 100 Ah 12 V AGM request excludes SC1446 because no maximum charging capacity is documented.
