Schumacher SC1305: charge ratings, fit and maintenance limits

The SC1305’s selector is easier to interpret when its routine Charge/Maintain range is separated from the larger Boost and Engine Start numbers. Schumacher’s current exact page links an owner’s manual that identifies the matching UL/cUL model codes, and the official page image shows the same SC1305 label and three distinct front-panel settings.

What does the SC1305’s 50 A label mean for normal charging?

The 50 A figure is the separate Engine Start setting, not the everyday charge rate. The front panel and linked manual identify a 6↔2 A Charge/Maintain selection, with a separate 10 A Boost mode. Schumacher says the routine charging current adjusts to battery size, so 6 A is a documented capability ceiling for a minimum-current screen—not a continuous-output guarantee or a safe-rate instruction for every battery. Check the battery maker’s charge limit. See the same 12 V AGM, portable, one-bank task with a 6 A minimum or read the full SC1305 assessment.

Will it charge 6 V or lithium batteries?

The directly linked manual limits this model to rechargeable 12 V lead-acid batteries and names Standard (STD) and AGM. It does not document 6 V or lithium operation, even though the current product-page marketing copy mentions LiFePO₄. Because the page-linked operating instructions do not give a lithium charging mode or BMS condition, this assessment does not treat that web copy as enough to recommend lithium. It also does not map “Standard” to a more specific flooded/wet, EFB, maintenance-free or calcium subtype.

Can it stay connected for storage maintenance?

The manual says automatic charging changes to Maintain when the battery is full and that the unit supplies a small current as needed. It publishes no fixed float-current value or universal Ah ceiling. If maximum maintenance current is needed continuously for twelve hours, the charger aborts, and Schumacher calls for occasional monitoring. This can be useful for a healthy, compatible 12 V battery when its connections and condition can be checked; it is not a cure for a bad battery or vehicle drain. Use a grounded outlet and a dry, ventilated location, and follow the manual’s advice to charge marine batteries ashore.
